US President Joe Biden has designated a nine-man delegation to attend the inauguration of Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29 in Abuja, Nigeria.
“I am honored,” Judd Devermont tweeted on Monday evening. Mr. Devermont is the special assistant to US President Joseph Biden and senior director for African Affairs in the National Security Council, and he expressed his excitement about joining the Presidential Delegation that would go to Nigeria in the coming days.
On Monday, May 22, Mr. Biden announced a nine-person Presidential Delegation to represent him and America “to the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Attend the Inauguration of His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu” on May 29, 2023, in Abuja, Nigeria, chaired by the Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia Fudge.
David Greene, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Department of State’s overseas mission, the US Embassy in Nigeria, will appropriately be a part of the delegation as the senior diplomat of an embassy that was established in the host country in 1960. At the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit he held last December, Mr. Biden committed to expedite high-level trips by senior administration officials to Africa.
Sydney Kamlager-Dove, a Congresswoman from California’s 37th Congressional District, is another candidate. She also belongs to President Biden’s Democratic Party.

The inauguration ceremonies will commence on Thursday, May 25, 2023, with Tinubu receiving the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic and Kashim Shettima receiving the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
