Six Weeks After, Tinubu Yet To Move Into Presidential Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, is yet to occupy his official residence at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. The reason for the delay is not clear, but some sources say it is due to ongoing renovations and security checks at the State House.

Tinubu has been staying at his private residence in Abuja, where he receives visitors and attends to official matters. He has also been travelling to other parts of the country and abroad for various engagements.

Some of his recent visitors include former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode, who he hosted on Friday, July 15, and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, who he met on Wednesday, July 12.

Tinubu is also yet to appoint a Chaplain for the Aso Villa Chapel, after the exit of the last one. His wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said the president is still searching for a suitable candidate for the position.

The Aso Rock Presidential Villa is the seat of power and the center of Nigeria’s political gravity. It was commissioned in the 1980s by President Ibrahim Babangida and completed in 1991. It has been home to every Nigerian president since then.

The villa is a place of great drama and controversies, as well as camaraderie and pride. It is also a place that faces some of the challenges affecting the country, such as power outages and water shortages.
