PDP Takes Legal Action Against Oborevwori and Okowa, Appoints New Delta Leader

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its decision to take legal action against Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other key figures following their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, disclosed this after the first National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the year.

Damagum stated that the PDP is determined to reclaim its mandate, emphasizing that the defectors were originally elected under the party’s platform. The party has directed its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, to initiate legal proceedings against the defectors.

In a related move, the PDP has appointed Emma Ogidi as the South-South Caretaker Chairman to oversee the party’s affairs in Delta State. Ogidi has been tasked with restructuring the state chapter and identifying new leadership.

The defection, which occurred on April 23, saw Oborevwori, Okowa, Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, and other prominent PDP members join the APC after a closed-door meeting in Asaba. This mass defection has been described as a significant political shift in Delta State.

The PDP has also scheduled a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for May 27 to address the situation and strategize on the party’s future in the state. The developments mark a critical moment for the PDP as it seeks to rebuild its presence in Delta.
