Explosion in Borno Claims Seven Lives, Injures Several

An explosion along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road in Borno State has tragically claimed the lives of seven commuters and left several others injured. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 12, 2025, when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), allegedly planted by Boko Haram insurgents, detonated on the dilapidated road.

The explosion targeted a military-escorted convoy transporting passengers between Damboa and Maiduguri. The Maiduguri-Damboa Road, which passes through the Sambisa Forest, has long been a hotspot for insurgent activities. Despite efforts to secure the route, such as military convoys and regular IED scans, the road remains perilous for travelers.

The injured victims were promptly evacuated to a hospital in Maiduguri for medical attention. Authorities have yet to release the exact number of injured individuals. The Borno State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are underway to gather more details about the attack.

This tragic incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, despite efforts by the government and military to restore normalcy. The Maiduguri-Damboa Road, once closed to traffic due to insurgent activities, was reopened under the administration of Governor Babagana Zulum, with military escorts providing security for commuters.

As the community mourns the loss of lives, calls for enhanced security measures and vigilance have intensified to prevent such tragedies in the future. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
