The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that Human Rights Lawyer, Dele Farotimi, is currently in their custody. This confirmation was made by the Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Abutu, in a statement released in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, late last night.
Farotimi’s arrest has sparked widespread concern, particularly among human rights advocates. According to the police, the arrest was made based on a petition alleging defamation and cyberbullying. The police obtained a warrant for his arrest and transported him from Lagos to Ekiti State.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, defended the arrest, stating that it was conducted lawfully and in response to serious allegations. However, the identity of the complainant remains undisclosed.
This development has drawn significant attention, with many calling for transparency and due process in handling the case.
