Godwin Emefiele’s position as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been suspended by President Bola Tinubu.
The inquiry into his office is still underway, and the proposed changes to the financial sector of the economy have led to the suspension.
The Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, CFR, has been suspended from office with immediate effect, according to a statement released on Friday by Willie Bassey, the agency’s director of information.
The statement states that “Mr. Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.”
