Buhari bestows the highest national honors on Tinubu and Shettima.

President Muhammadu Buhari has bestowed Nigeria’s highest national honor, the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (GCFR) on President-elect Bola Tinubu. GCON, the second highest national honor, was also bestowed upon Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima.

The event is now taking place at the Banquet Hall of the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

At the event, Mr Buhari also handed over transition paperwork and the baton of service to the future president.
Mr Tinubu, speaking immediately after receiving the transition paperwork, paid respect to the outgoing president, whom he refers to as “Mr Democrat.”
According to the president-elect, the “documents clearly enumerated the efforts of the past eight years,” based on the facts supplied by the transition council’s Chairman, Boss Mustafa.

Mr Tinubu reaffirmed his trust in democracy and stated that nothing will discourage the country from upholding it.

“Our paths will not be easy,” he continued, “but we have faith in our collective abilities to face the challenges that lie ahead.”

Mr Tinubu also utilized the occasion to express his gratitude to Mr Buhari for addressing the wrong of the annulment of the presidential election on June 12, 1993, as well as for recognizing and honoring the election’s acclaimed winner, Moshood Abiola.

“You have done your part and now a great duty will descend on me. I understand the honour given to me today and the magnitude of the task ahead.

“Whether you go to Daura or Niger or anywhere, you expect knocks on your doors.

“I shall not disappoint you,” Mr Tinubu said.
