PDP accuses APC of war mongering over Niger coup

Here is a possible news report based on the information The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) of warmongering and trying to destabilize Nigeria for political reasons. The PDP alleged that the APC was eager to deploy Nigerian soldiers to Niger Republic in defiance of the disapproval by the National Assembly and Nigerians across the board.

The PDP said the situation in Niger Republic, where a military coup ousted President Mahamadou Issoufou on August 10, 2023, did not warrant any external peace-keeping effort and did not pose any threat to Nigeria’s national interest¹³. The PDP also said the APC was desperate to provoke a possible external aggression from Niger Republic, thereby creating a situation for the declaration of a state of emergency in Nigeria with the tendency to cripple the judicial process on the 2023 presidential election and divert attention from the hardship the APC has inflicted on the nation.

The PDP urged the military high command to be guided by the constitution and not to allow itself to be dragged into a needless war by the APC³. The PDP also called for transparency and accountability in the management of the subsidy funds, which it said had increased due to the rise in crude oil prices.

The APC has not responded to the allegations by the PDP as of the time of filing this report.
