President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the co-founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, and the chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting was aimed at discussing issues related to health and development in Nigeria and Africa.
President Tinubu pledged to give priority attention to the health and safety of Nigerians, noting that for any country to develop, the health of its people, particularly the workforce, is critical. He also praised the partnership between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which have been working together to eradicate polio, measles, malaria, and other diseases from the continent.
He commended Bill Gates for his efforts in the area of climate change and his advocacy for developing countries. He told the philanthropist that the West needed to hear more from him with respect to the plight of developing countries, saying, “You have all it takes to help developing nations more.”
Dangote congratulated President Tinubu on his election and the successful assumption of office. He said the visit to the villa was to brief the President on the activities of the two foundations and their commitment to improving the health sector in Nigeria. He expressed their willingness to cooperate further with the government in achieving its goals.
He also seized the opportunity to commend the President for the removal of fuel subsidy, expressing confidence that more state funds would be allocated to education, health, infrastructure, and other critical areas of the economy.
