Obi slams judiciary interference, hopeful of tribunal victory

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has slammed the recent events around the judiciary, saying they are unacceptable and aimed at distracting the judges from delivering justice.

Obi, who is challenging the ruling APC candidate, Bola Tinubu, at the PEPC, said he was dismayed by the allegations of interference and intimidation of the judiciary by some agents of retrogression.

He cited the reports of a phone call between Tinubu and the CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and the fake news of the resignation of one of the PEPC panelists as examples of such attempts to undermine the integrity and independence of the judiciary.

Obi, who spoke through his media office in Abuja on Friday, urged Nigerians to support and protect the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.

He expressed confidence that the PEPC would uphold his petition and declare him as the duly elected president of Nigeria.

He said he had presented overwhelming evidence to prove that Tinubu was not qualified to contest the election due to his involvement in illicit drugs trafficking in the US and that he did not win the election in a free and fair manner.

He said he was optimistic that the Supreme Court would overturn any ruling that is not in line with the law and the will of the people.

Obi appealed to his supporters and all Nigerians to remain calm and peaceful as they await the verdict of the PEPC. He said he was committed to the rule of law and democracy in Nigeria.
