No truth in EFCC Chairmanship appointment, says AIG Hakeem Odumosu

AIG Hakeem Odumosu, who retired as the Lagos State Police Commissioner, has dismissed the rumours that he has been named as the new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement he released on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Odumosu called the report false and baseless and asked the public to ignore it.

He blamed some troublemakers for spreading the false information and trying to distract him from his retirement plans.

Odumosu said he had no interest in any political appointment and that he was committed to his retirement goals.

He also praised the EFCC for its anti-corruption work and expressed his support for the commission’s efforts to curb financial crimes in the country.

The online report of Odumosu’s appointment as EFCC Chairman had emerged on Tuesday night, after the former acting Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, was suspended over allegations of misconduct.

The EFCC had stated that its Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol, would take over as the Acting Chairman of the commission until Bawa’s investigation was concluded.

Odumosu urged the media and the public to check any information before sharing it and to avoid spreading fake news that could jeopardize the peace and security of the nation.
