Nollywood veteran actor Don Brymo Uchegbu Dies at 56

 

Nollywood has lost one of its finest actors, Don Brymo Uchegbu, who died in his sleep on Wednesday night, June 14, 2023. He was 56 years old.

The actor, who was known for playing Igwe (King) roles in movies, reportedly suffered from a partial stroke and elevated blood sugar levels. He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where his health condition was confirmed.

His death was announced by his friend and colleague, Mayor Ofoegbu, a prominent movie director in Nollywood. In a Facebook post, Ofoegbu expressed his shock and disbelief over the sudden loss of his “manchi” (brother).

“Plan for tomorrow but live for today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. I wrote those lines on my WhatsApp status yesterday evening. My man, my 5 & 6, Don Brymo Uchegbu, passed in his sleep. I received the shocking news this morning and had to verify from his family. Chai! Don Brymo, my manchi. It’s hard to say goodbye. Nnukwu nwa na Enugu ukwu.” Ofoegbu wrote.

Born in 1966 in Anambra State, Don Brymo joined the film industry in 2000. He featured in notable titles such as “Anger of a Wonder Girl,” “Ikemba,” “Ritual of Vengeance,” and “Wedding in Nigeria,” among others.

Don Brymo’s demise has left a void in the Nollywood community, with colleagues and fans mourning the loss of a gifted actor.

Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor shared a photo of Don Brymo on her Instagram page and wrote: “Rest in peace my dear friend and brother. You were a great actor and a wonderful person. You will be missed by all of us in Nollywood.”

Actor Yul Edochie also paid tribute to Don Brymo on Twitter, saying: “Sad news. We have lost another legend in Nollywood. Don Brymo Uchegbu was a master of his craft and a mentor to many of us. May God grant him eternal rest.”

Fans also took to social media to express their condolences and appreciation for Don Brymo’s work. One fan wrote: “Don Brymo was one of my favorite actors growing up. He always delivered his roles with passion and charisma. May his soul rest in peace.”

Another fan commented: “This is heartbreaking. Don Brymo was a legend in Nollywood. He made us proud of our culture and heritage. May God comfort his family and friends.”
