The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced that starting January 2025, unprofiled vehicles will no longer be allowed in Abuja. This measure aims to curb kidnapping and “one-chance” robbery incidents.
Wike made this statement during the FCT Renewed Hope Youth Empowerment Programme in Abuja, where he handed over new cars to beneficiaries to use as taxis. He emphasized that these vehicles would be profiled by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure safety.
Wike highlighted that all commercial buses, taxis, and motorcycles must have official security clearance and use the standard Abuja color scheme. He encouraged beneficiaries not to be ashamed of their new roles, noting that many Nigerians accept similar jobs abroad.
This initiative is part of the government’s effort to enhance security and reduce transportation costs in the city.
