In a move to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming governorship election, the Ondo State Government has declared Friday, November 15, 2024, as a public holiday for all public servants. This announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Head of Service, Femi Ayodele, in a statement issued on Wednesday, November 13.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the public holiday is intended to facilitate ease of movement for residents, allowing them to travel to their respective polling units across the 18 local government areas of the state without work obligations. The governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.
The state government hopes that this measure will encourage a higher voter turnout and ensure a smooth electoral process. The decision underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering democratic participation and ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to cast their vote.
This public holiday is part of broader efforts to support the democratic process and ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
