Kano Government Owes Pensioners Over N43 Billion News Home

The state government owes pensioners in the state more than N43 billion, according to the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Kano.

At the handover ceremony for the new chairman of the State Pension Funds Trustees, Habu Muhammad Fage, the state’s pensioners’ chairman, Comrade Salisu Ahmed Gwale, revealed this on Thursday.

More than 3,000 public officials who retired in the state between 2016 and 2023, according to Comrade Gwale, have not yet received their gratuities.

“More than 3,000 retirees in the state have not yet received their gratuity since 2016.” We owe the state government more than N43 billion at the moment.

He claims that the retirees have had extreme hardship as a result of the gratuity not being paid to them. But he asked the trustees’ new administration to step in.

“To be honest, the impacted members have suffered greatly as a result of this. We are requesting that the new leadership take a look at our situation and do something about it.

Habu Fage’s remark indicated that Abba Yusuf, the new state governor, was aware of the situation facing the retirees.

He encouraged the pensioners’ chairman to inform the pension fund trustees of their condition so that swift action might be taken.

“His Excellence, Engr. Abba is aware of your plight, I am also aware of your plight, and I just document a few more from the speech of the chairman of the Union of Pensioners,” he said.

“I promised that I will do everything in my power to address this, but please you must document all the plight to us to enable us to address this on time,” he added.
