The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the Super Eagles of Nigeria three points and three goals following their aborted African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match against Libya. The decision came after the Nigerian team faced significant logistical issues, including being held at Al-Abraq Airport for nearly 20 hours without adequate food or water.
CAF’s Disciplinary Committee found the Libya Football Federation in breach of multiple regulations, leading to the match being declared a forfeit with a 3-0 scoreline in favor of Nigeria. Additionally, Libya has been fined $50,000, which must be paid within 60 days. This ruling underscores CAF’s commitment to ensuring fair treatment of visiting teams and maintaining the integrity of international competitions.
